Desmond Maughan, #45 Amity Lodge Rendezvous, Christ Church, Barbados, W. I.  246-429-3615  246-251-8186 cell, DOB: 6/12/1948. Desmond Maughan, former president of the BDA (Barbados Draughts Association), and also managed GM Ronald “Suki” King on his 2014 GAYP World Championship Match victory against CM Sergio Scarpetta. King keeps his title because the challenger must beat the champion, not just draw as: GM Ron King (Barbados) 2 wins & CM Sergio Scarpetta (Italy) 2 wins and 20 draws. Desmond Maughan continued helping “Suki” with his campaign for the rest of the series.

Danny Gill emailed me in August saying, “I forgot to tell you that Desmond Maughan from Barbados died. He won the 2014 - 49^th 3-Move Nationals Majors in Louisville, Kentucky. He was my friend and he will be missed. He was a Pharmacist by profession and attended one of the top schools in Barbados, Harrison College. His wife and son will surely miss him.”  I ask Danny to send me Desmond Maughan's obituary, which I will add to this page...  Danny emailed me this obiturary.

Retired Pharmacist;  Former General Manager of Curacao Laboratories and Proprietor of Cave's Pharmacy.  Son of the late W. Nat Maughan  (Pharmacist/Owner of Nelson Pharmacy),  and the late Sybil Maughan.  Husband of Margaret Diana Maughan nee Mose,  Farther of Dean Thomas Maughan  Dr Ac, Pharmacist (Tricia Lucas).  Grandfather of Dominic Maughan,  Brother of Basil Raymond and Marceline, Uncle of  four, Great-uncle of five,  Godfather of Liz Scott, and Relative of many.  A service of thanksgiving  for the life of Desmond Thomas Maughan JP takes place on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael where relatives and friends are asked to meet at 9:30 a.m. followed by the interment at Westbury Cemetery.  Flowers may be sent to Keith Jones Funeral Home no later than 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.
